Composed in 2000, this was my first experience of writing for the guitar, which was to lead to Partita and Suite for Cello and Guitar. This short piece explores several guitar techniques, including the flamenco technique of rasgueado. There are three main ideas: a forceful, rhythmic strumming, a repetitive melody with chordal accompaniment, and a more lyrical melody accompanied by gentle broken chords. The work has been performed by the Irish Guitar Trio and Triole.
